Cyclone Alfred & block any holes or leaks to ensure our safety.
My story
SUNDAY - Pre-Alfred
My name is TJ
Today I heard that this cyclone, ‘Alfred’, was going to hit us Wednesday Morning
Cyclone Alfred was a category 2 cyclone, which wasn’t too worrying, but still had some destructive capabilities & could possibly be worthy of evacuating.
Despite this, we decided to prepare where we live & hope for the best.
MONDAY - 2 days till Alfred arrives.
Today we got some emergency food & some go-bags just incase
worse comes to worse.
We planned on getting some duct-tape & Tape to tape the windows
The news have now announced that Alfred is taking longer than expected
& will now arrive on Wednesday night.
TUESDAY- 2 days till Alfred arrives.
Alfred slowed down a bit & is instead hitting Thursday morning.
We got some rolls of duct-tape & taped most windows, but we ended up running
Out before everything was sealed shut.
A spare esky is going to store our cold food for when Alfred hits.
WEDNESDAY- 1 day till Alfred arrives.
Alfred is getting lazier & lazier by the minute, as once again
Alfred has been delayed by a whole extra day, & so is now predicted
To arrive on Friday morning…
On another note, we got more duct-tape & sealed all the windows.
Everything that doesn’t require a constant source of power has been
charged.
THURSDAY- 1 day till Alfred arrives.
There’s not much to say about today,
we got some board games & books to read & play
While the powers out, but there’s nothing else to
Do but wait.
Alfred didn’t get delayed this time.
FRIDAY - Alfred’s arrival
When I first heard Alfred was coming, I thought it would be truly
devastating, windows shattering, floods rising, wind howling, but instead,
Light rain sprinkled across the ground as the sky went dark.
On another note, the internet & power went out tonight,
This all lasted for 3 days.
SATURDAY, SUNDAY & MONDAY - Alfred
Alfred hadn’t done anything major yet, in fact the wind was so calm,
you could open the windows & not a breeze would come in. But we still didn’t
Do this because of the rain.
A light flood formed in our backyard, not deep enough to be life threatening, but
not shallow enough to just splash around in.
For these 3 days, it was really quite as boring as you’d imaging,
we played card & board games, read books & that was really it.
Monday noon, we decided Alfred was harmless, at least where we lived,
So we went out to see if there was a single flood a kilometer from our house.
Out we went, the rain was calm, we walked to the park to see if anything
Had happened.
Our house was apparently in a safe pocket since our arrival to the park
was met by broken trees & this GIANT flood
It was where the valley used to be, where we used to ride our bikes,
we were a safe distance away to admire it, but sooner or later we
got tired of the rain & went back, waiting out the tropical storm.
Monday night, power came back! We were able to put our food back in the fridge,
We were able to cook our meals, we were able to charge our devices!
Except for 5 minutes later when the power went out again.
TUESDAY - Ex-Alfred
Power & internet was back this morning, but everything was so messy.
We as a whole spent the entire day cleaning up the house,
& putting everything back where it belonged.
The Ex-Alfred floods I had seen on the news never reached us,
So I supposed that’s it.
For my first time ever going through a Tropical Cyclone, I can
confidently say it was very underwhelming.
I have pictures & videos of what I mentioned from my
Phone while the power was out.
